The Swedish vallhund was orignally created to be a general purpose farm dog. Its main role was moving cattle (droving) but they would also dispatch rodents and act as watch dogs. Today, while the breed can still be used for it's original job and some still are, most homes in the UK do not require their vallhunds to work. Instead the breed has evolved into an active family dog, able to take part in a multitude of canine activities, both for fun as well as competition.
